Literature is a mirror into the past that, with study, can help determine your future.

  • I expect students to learn how to dissect their reading assignments much like a surgeon would dissect a cadaver.  Taking apart a piece of literature and looking at its individual parts in order to examine the devices used by the writer to create the whole will require the student to develop the critical thinking skills needed to function  intellectually at a higher level.
  • I expect my students to learn how to take the information gathered and digested while studying their reading assignments and use that knowledge to write fresh and insightful papers.
Most of all, I hope students develop the skills needed to examine all types of literature and learn about society, which will allow them to make better decisions about their own futures.
